Yeah, on paper the standard 340 wasn’t as powerful as the 383, especially with its 1969 power-bump, but many of those that drove both cars preferred the 340 over its bigger cousin. All that extra weight from the 383 negated some of the performance gains and really hurt handling. 6,285 Dart GTS hardtops were built in 1969 (417 GTS ‘verts).
